1. Kamiah Papaya:
The Kamiah papaya is one of the cultivars of papayas. This kind of papaya is well known for its more round shape than most of the papayas. The fact that it is more round than the others means that this papaya carries more flash in it than any other variety of Papayas. However, this kind of papaya is a genetically engineered fruit to produce more fruits and more yield in just one fruit.

The ripeness of this papaya does not depend on the color of the skin. The ripeness can be determined if the skin yield to the pressure exerted by the finger. Additionally, this genetically engineered papaya is more resistant to viruses, cutting the costs of the farmers. However, genetically engineered papayas have not been observed long enough to provide the side effect on the consumption of GMOs. For the mean while, this papaya will benefit the farmer’s land. Conventional and organic farming can also be applied to this papaya since this plant does not require much and conventional farming has also been proven to be effective.
2. Mexican Red:
The Mexican Red papaya is reddish to red-orange in color. This papaya is very sweet and is larger than the Hawaiian variety of papayas. The tree of this type of papaya prefers to be in full sun and a well drained soil. Similar to the other papayas, this papaya yields to the touch of the finger’s pressure. The inside is mainly consisted of reddish colored sweet flesh. As compared the other papayas, this papaya is more elongated in shape.
3. Mexican Yellow:
This variety of the papaya is yellowish in cool. The skin of this papaya does not respond to the ripeness of the fruit, instead, its skin will respond to the pressure of the finger’s touch. In comparison to the Mexican red papaya, the Mexican Yellow has a yellowish flesh with similar tastes to the Mexican red papaya. The flesh on the other hand is firmer to bite compared to the Mexican red.
4. Solo:
The Solo is the most common of all the papaya variety. This papaya’s tree does not produce any male tree. This tree can either be bisexual or female with an average ratio of 2:1. This was introduced into Hawaii from Barbados in the 1911. Later on to be named Solo.

This papaya has a fruit that has a reddish-orange flesh. This is an excellent quality in taste and texture. This papaya is the most commonly found within the tropics. Like any other papaya, this has the shape like that of a pear.

The folk tale of the Papaya based on the Philippine version tells about the story of the tribe of Negritos, the people whose skin is dark brown in color. Their livelihood was based on hunting on the mountains of central to Northern Luzon province. Their skin has turned brown due to the high exposure to the sun. They have evolved to be adapted to the current situation of their livelihood.

It tells the story of how a young fairy saved the lives of the tribe’s people from the invading forces of colonizers. The colonizers attacked the tribe of the Negritos, while they were on the most peaceful time of the day, 1 pm. While every person of the tribe has been resting in their homes, the colonizers attacked the village. At once the people scattered all around the areas of the village in panic. One of the Negritos asked for help from a fair. At once the fairy replied to the request of a humble Negritos. By the time that the colonizers were a mile away, the fairy told all of the Negritos to hide in the pear shaped sanctuary. Little did the Negritos know that the sanctuary was actually a fruit. The fairy told the Negritos to sit down and not to move. The Negritos commonly have curly hairs. By the time that the colonizers arrived, they found no one in the village but a fruit. They opened the fruit and found out that the fruit contains these most peculiar of all fruit.

This fruit has these seed that looks like the curly haired heads of the Negritos. The colonizers brought the fruit all over the world and planted the fruit. Until now, the Negritos have reached heights in numbers because of the distribution of the Papaya seeds. Also, until now, the Negritos are still hiding believing that the colonizers are still there to capture them.
