The papaya has been long in the world ever since the recorded history of mankind. The papaya was thought to have originated from Mexico or Central America. Since the time of the rise of the Spanish conquest, the papaya has been introduced to Europe. Seeds were brought by ships into the other areas of the world, including India, and the other parts of Southeast Asia. Since the time of the introduction of the papaya to the common world, it has then gained a lot names: “pawpaw” from Europe, “Fruta Bomba” in Cuba and “Papaye” in France.

While in the recent history, the papaya has been modified genetically. In effect the papaya tree will produce more fruits than the normal papaya or the organic papaya tree does. In Hawaii, the papayas that have been planted were originally organic in nature. No pesticide and other artificial enhancements have been added. Due to the advancement of the genetically engineered papayas, otherwise known as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) have contaminated the organic plantation of papayas leaving a mixture of both available to the public.
